Is it okay for my parents to be this controlling?

So i was 14 when covid first started. I wanted a job at 14 but knew i probably wouldn’t get one. then covid hit, and i wasn’t even thing about jobs. but about a year later i really wanted a job, a lot of my friends were getting them. they said no because everywhere i asked was too far to drive me. they also piggybacked off of covid too. now i’m 17 and they still won’t let me have a job and they have never given me a allowance. they also make up excuses to not let me have a drivers license. i do have a permit i got a year ago, but i got it late because they told me you have to be 16.5 to get a permit, and it’s 16. i know drive around a small suburban neighborhood maybe a couple times a month. i’m just so frustrated. i feel so helpless, i can’t spend and money, i can go anywhere. i’m completely dependent on them.

    In Russia we don’t get our drivers licenses until 18 and can’t really work a job until 18 either (think this is changing right now)
    So don’t see yourself as being so far behind. Once you start working it’s nearly impossible to stop, holding off on it isn’t such a bad thing.

      here in my state of the US you can legally drive at 16 and get a job at 14. so it light be a little different culturally

    Honestly, enjoy it. I’d definitely cut off my left leg, fuck, take em both, to not work and told not to drive. lol.

      for me it’s almost suffocating. idk how to describe it, i don’t have any money, i have to plan to get driven everywhere. it’s so hard especially because i of what i hear from others ppl my age

    I dont know all the details but from what you've said it sounds like they are holding you back in life. Its not good to baby you so much because 17 is not that young anymore. You're almost an adult and you havent even been employed or have a car. Thats not a good start. How are you gonna move out if you never start working?
