i think you should keep separate bank accounts. you dont argue over who is spending more money and crappy things like that. it took a few years before my husband could convince me to put our money together and at first, all we did was argue because he would spend more than me and i never had enough money to lavish on myself so i ended up putting some of my pay back into my old account.
since joining our accounts though, its been easier when it comes to house, car, insurance etc. payments because they automatically come out of the one account but i guess until you have a mortgage or other things in both your names, then it doesnt matter. as long as you are both happy with your money arrangements, then dont worry about what other people say or think.
