Yes, and I believe it's all just part of the creative process.
For instance, while I never compose music, I do like to draw and paint quite a lot. And I believe I go through a similar process to the one you described. Actually, I have one painting I refuse to hang up until I've "finished" it; it's been in my storage for about five years now. Other people have seen it and, to them, thought it looked finished. But, I'd rather burn it than display it as is.
I suppose, with creative pursuits, it never really feels truly finished or perfected but, occasionally, you make something acceptable and satisfactory enough so that you can leave it alone or share it with others. So, in that respect, I think what your are experiencing is perfectly normal.

I hope so...I've never known anyone else with the same sort of mindset, but it makes sense I suppose.
