It's not normal, but it is something that is, unfortunately, common. Elementary school was cake, most kids got along. Middle school personally was the worst for me. I was one of the smaller kids in the school (I'm now 6'1") and got picked on more than I felt I should have. Random kids kicking me down in the hallway, my food taken off m tray and slammed in my face because the thug kids thought it was funny, name calling etc. It toned down in high school, and I ended up shooting up in size by sophomore year, and I also picked up slick comebacks that made the bully switch roles, or become the one picked on. From there on, I was bullied less, because I was bigger than most of the kids I was bullied by, I fought back verbally and physically, just enough to let them know that I wasn't a door mat.
I you weren't bullied, you're lucky. It's a shitty part of growing up that most people went through as kids.

I read "I ended up shooting up..." and I stopped and had to re-read.
