I used to get beat up, told I was worthless, called a whore (when I was like 8 years old and not sexually active at all), and even spat on. Usually, I did nothing to provoke such extreme punishment.
I tried to tell an adult from a group once in the 1st grade, but they didn't believe me because I'm from a white upper-middle class background. Come to think of it, that adult was pretty dumb. There was a puppet show involved. Yup.
