Yes, people get like that now and then in their lives. It is common, even though it's not a healthy state to be in.
It makes those times easier if you have a strong and *supportive* network of family and/or friends to help you through it. I don't mean that they have to talk you out of being depressed, or listen to you mope for months on end, but just being around them and having them accept your presence unconditionally while you're down in the dumps makes a huge difference.
If you don't have people who will willingly be supportive of you during these times in your life, it can help to pay someone (a counsellor) to do it for you.
