Why not? Profile pics are a basic feature on any forum. If it's to try to get more gold subscribers, it won't work.
As a former long-term gold subscriber who left then rejoined and bought gold after you changed things and then promptly stopped, it's easy to say why I stopped buying gold...access to the unmodded section, more valued user input and less shitposts. Why did you take that away? You fucked up. Put stronger troll controls on, like simply verifying a valid email to sign up. Then, let your dedicated, good users do the groundwork by doing some filtering in the unmodded. Instead, you went and limited comments severly to try to get rid of trolls but that just hurts real (or potential) real users and makes most say 'fuck it'. You took away everything that makes people stay but did nothing to deter people trolling the site. Simple curiosity about what is in the unmodded section will draw and keep more gold subscibers than yanking away profile pics will. There is free image hosting and messaging apps, ya know. It's too easy to get around that yet also too annoying to have to get around it to keep new users interested. Use your fucking head for something other than hat rack, bud. You have a potential moneymaker but you are throwing it away with every stupid choice you make.

Sooooooo fucking simple to just require email verification and would cut out a lot of trolling and by cutting that out, you keep good users and lose a lot of the problems. Is this not obvious? Email verification won't help. People will just create throwaway email addresses at mailinator.com and a hundred other similar services. It might slow them down a little bit, but not by much. However it would make things much less anonymous for legitimate users with private questions.
I've recently added some behind the scenes measures against the multi-troll accounts that I think will help a lot and will continue adding more. Cat & Mouse. I will win eventually.
I might make it a gold feature, but I believe that only a handful of people care about this and it doesn't add much to the site, so I'm reluctant to do it.
