the government is telling you that you your boyfriend is not "mentally capable" of consenting to a physical act of love with an older member of your species but he is mentally capable of operating a machine that is able to accelerate at speeds of up to 200 Mph? bullshit.
anyway, the reason your friends don't understand it and see it as "weird" is because the government has been feeding it's citizens propaganda about how everyone under 18 is somehow not able to understand the risks of sex or are still ignorant 5 year olds who can't think for themselves.
and yet we are able to understand the severity, risks and consequences of what we decide to do in school, from deciding what job you want to who you decide to spend your time with.
what it all comes down to is YOU, if you two are truly in love then fuck what everyone else thinks about it simple as that :)
