My friends mean the world to me. So, yes, I do care about them. I agree with dom180; I also feel by definition, friends are people who you care about. If I didn't care about them, they wouldn't be my friends.
I also agree with Short4Words. Some people might perceive acts of friendship as "using" someone. I mean, you do use them in a sense (for laughter, for emotional support, etc.) You also give it back, though. I suppose it's the motive behind it, really. Some people pretend to be friends with others with the motive of getting something from them (or using them). In a friendship, you're naturally going to do things for each other, but it's because you care about each other.
