People act differently from their real self all the time, but they do that because they're unsure or just plain jerks. Thing is, they don't do it for you. Humans are a selfish race, 'though luckily there are lots of people who want to care for people as well. And surely there are people that want you to react as they want you to, but again, that's because it's easier for themselves, not so you would make a more interesting television series.
