Being a high-functioning autistic person isn't fun. Trust me, I know from experience - I was diagnosed with it 4 years ago. Want to know what it's like?
Most people misunderstand you a lot because you don't have the social skills to properly communicate exactly what you mean.
Public places and social gatherings overwhelm your senses and cause you to shut down mentally and emotionally.
If you have siblings, expect them to hate you for getting "special treatment" from doctors and parents.
Most people can tell there's something "wrong" with you. Most of the time they'll just write you off as a "weirdo". But if they find out you really are autistic, expect them to talk down to you like you have mental retardation.
You have very few, if any, friends.
You feel the urge to play with your hands and walk on your toes, and you get made fun of a lot for it.
You'll become very obsessed with one narrow topic, and it's all you'll want to learn about and pretty much all you'll be able to talk about. It'll probably be something normal people would find boring or nerdy (and not the "cool" kind of nerdy either), so expect to get made fun of for that too.
Oh yeah, and autistic people also have a hard time with motor skills, sleep problems, and tics that are associated with Tourette's, as well as a higher chance of having anxiety disorders and depression.
I hate to tell people this but most of the world doesn't know how to adjust to ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders). With all do respect to those whom are neurotypical, better accommodations and education would be best appreciated. Rural America is the absolute worst at his because they think it's an excuse to be different. I wish I could be neurotypical so I can dismiss weird people who don't know or understand me.
Is it normal to wish to be abnormal?

Still wish you were autistic?

Reality checks are a good thing. Thank you.
One of the coolest responses I've ever read here!
some of that may not always be the case.
