Is it normal to WISH for the tampering down of mental health stigma?

  • The issue is not less or more being done. The issue is regulation. When things are not regulated people abuse them. That is what happened to the mental health field. Doctors would purposely misdiagnose 100 healthy patients before they properly diagnose 10 sick ones.

What they need a strict standard which needs to be followed and stricter rules for misdiagnoses. If someone misdiagnoses take away there license and say they cant work in that field ever again. That would ensure better doctors who care, and more patients being helped.

There will always be mental illness. There is no point in making false diagnoses of people. This is crippling society and not encouraging people to be creative or intelligent. Highly creative and intelligent people do not fit in and never will. Telling them they have a mental illness for being too intelligent or being too creative is not helping society prosper.

So this poll is wrong. Your missing the real issue. More money into a broken system does nothing. Less into a broken system doesn't fix it either. What you need is regulation. This applys to government processes as well.

MEDICAL CARE Doctors get hammered for every little mistakes. I don't see why people don't hold psychologists to this same standard. This abuse would not be tolerated by general care. Why is it tolerated from a shrink?

    • Ah, very insightful you are.

Well, thank you for taking the time to comment, I appreciated that.

What I was getting at (or, trying to) was to point out the errors in care for those with a mental illness. But, it seems, "the things you take for granted, are what others are praying for", and lots of the time, we just don't realize how fortunate the USA is, where we actually have docs and psychs available.

However, you can beat that argument down by saying: "Germany has more mental facilities than we do for every 40 patients", because, they do.

I'm just hoping you're not forgetting how lucky of a country the USA is, in terms of healthcare.
      Thank you.
