Lets think about this and decide which is more normal. Your friends are putting their hands into a toilet bowl with all kinds of filth in it to wipe their ass. You are standing up away from all the nonsense to wipe. I think your way makes a little more sense than theirs.
I thought everyone wiped standing up, because I've tried wiping sitting down, and it's just so impractical and awkward.
