Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. Don't let other people scare you with stories about your clothes or underwear getting ruined. Chlorine ruins everything including swimwear. It's why most of it doesn't last more than one season. I wear my underwear for swimming all the time, especially since I like to go to secluded swimming holes over public pools anyway. I wore boxer briefs from Crazy Boxer in an indoor pool at a motel recently and was there all afternoon. I had the pool to myself but I was on video at the front desk and no one said a word.
Is it normal to wear cute underwear and a bra as a bathing suit?

I've also been known to go swimming in jeans.
