Is it normal to watch graphic videos that might involve death or a tragedy?

I don't do it often, but sometimes something in the news will spark my attention and haunt me to no end. I obsessively start looking up whatever I can find, and sometimes there'll be a graphic video. I don't necessarily like doing it, I just feel the need to, lIke a bit of OCD where I feel like by watching the video, I can fix the situation or find new details as if to help in some way. Recently there was a ship that sunk and people drowned. Somebody had the video of it right before it sunk and I watched it multiple times, wishing I could do something. Should I talk to my psychiatrist about this or just let it go?

Is It Normal?

    What a waste.
    Yea, I've heard about this.
It is troubling to get fixated.
Sorry I don't have an easy answer.
But, I also won't fill your shoes with shit, then tell you to walk.
    That's your shrinks job.

    • Not a waste. Actually has helped me, but thanks a lot, Negative Nancy. Everyone heals differently. My "shrink" has helped me so much through my earlier trauma with rape, assault, and so many other instances of PTSD, not to mention my depression and anxiety. I'm sorry if you had a shitty experience but don't shit on mine. I hope you get help if you need it as well.

  • Doesn't everyone do this?

    • That was the whole point of me asking, haha. I truly felt like I was the only one and didn't realize it was "normal."

  • Yes, morbid curiosity is natural. I even think that, in moderation, viewing footage of tragic events is healthy. It gives you a better understanding of how fragile life really is.
