Is it normal to want to walk across america to free your mind?
Okay. I am facing a dilemma. As an 18-year-old who has graduated and has a job, I feel as if I have no plans. I just don't know what to do. My high school years I had no idea what I wanted to do in life career-wise. No jobs seemed... right for me. I just wasn't into anything "normal" so to speak. My mild Tourette's and Asperger's syndrome may have something to do with all this.. I have always had hobbies, but no career interests. Any interest I did have was far-fetched... out of my grasp.
Before you begin to think this is off topic, trust me. It all ties together. Now, this job that I have.. I work part time at Publix (a grocery store, for people who didn't know) and quite frankly... I don't like it there. I just hate having to deal with customers, and kissing ass like a slave. If I don't kiss ass, I'll get fired. Call me a typical teenage rebel, or whatever you will, but I don't like thinking about myself living like this forever. It just doesn't make me happy, and I doubt any conventional job will. Isn't the goal in life to just be happy?
I don't find any interest or motivation in careers or colleges like most people I know. I find myself yearning to explore.. to see what is out there! I believe I can finally find some inner... destiny within myself if I simply walk across my country. This may seem like a treacherous feat to some - and my own mother laughs at me like I am a lunatic - but it is what I want to do. It will make me happy. From this journey, maybe I can find some sense of direction. Yes, it is much like living like a hobo, but dammit, it is exciting. It makes my heart race when talking about the plan! It may be frowned upon by society, but free will and free thought is looked down upon by the masses anyway it seems.. What I ask of you is: Is it normal to walk a great distance to find out who you really are, and what you want to do?
This is my first post, so if I left anything out I am sorry. Plus I'm typing this out at midnight. If you have any questions, I will answer them. Thank you.
