Is it normal to want to stay with him?

My boyfriend is entering the Navy and committing to 5 years of service. We have been on and off for the past 4 years and doing the long distance thing for the past 5 months because I am at school and he is working. It is going well but (as with any long distance relationship) it has its challenges. My boyfriend has come right out and told me that he has no intention of making a greater commitment to me that what we are doing now. My instincts are telling me I could get hurt again or be disappointed by what we become while he is in the Navy. He is not breaking up with me but I worry about my committing to try and make this work if he is not making some kind of commitment. Is it crazy for me to want to stay with him while he does this?

    Sounds to me as if his conveying to you that he will never offer you more than what you have now, is his way of breaking it off w/you. He probably doesn't want to come right out and say it, so now he has dumped the decision in your lap; so, now that the ball is in your court, be strong, and follow your instincts !! Oh, how I wish I had followed mine many times before. It would have saved me a lot of heartache !! Good luck !!
