Is it normal to want to retire early and live in my motorhome?

I’m really ready to retire early (I’m 50) and travel around. I have enough saved that if I sell my house I could retire now if I have low expenses. I’m single and kid raised living far away. I have a nice motorhome and believe I could be really happy living in it and traveling around. I’ve found a nice RV resort where I can rent a lot for a home base with a storage shed and parking for my car. Then I could come and go as I please. So, normal to want something like this?

It's good that you have the choice. You're lucky. Enjoy!

If all your finances are straight for retirement then why not. It really doesn’t matter where you live.

I love where I live so, no, I wouldn't want to travel much. I used to want to before I found my home. I started over many times. No desire to now though.

If you have lived as a minimalist and were comfortable with it, you will enjoy your new life style.

Prefect i think. If you wait to adapt to a small environment when your old it could be a problem but do it early and you may get used to it

I’ve thought about doing something similar, except on my boat. Sounds like it would be a great way to retire. Go on RVer blog sites and I bet you’ll find posts from people who’ve done this.

In Australia you often see older people doing this. And they are sometimes given free camping slots if they chip in at the site by manning a phone or cleaning or something, which brings their expenses down even more.

My husband and I lived in a motorhome for 6 months and we met a lot of these people on our travels. They had their own unique stories to tell but they all had one thing in common - they all seemed happy and content.

    I say go for it!

I'm too materialistic for that, because I wouldn't want to be a minimalist. I would love to have a big house, and some land with lots of animals, but my cats would stay indoors, and maybe a couple of the dogs would be outside for protection. I would also love to have a nice big fence around all of it!

    • I used to be that way. The place you describe is what I have now - big house, several acres and lots of creatures around (wild ones), no fence though. But I’m tired of all the expense and maintenance.

Regardless of where I end up I must always have at least 1 cat or perhaps a dog. My ex was always talking about minimalism, but it austere for my tastes. He was always making me watch videos on YouTube and these so called tiny houses.
