Is it normal to want to reject societal norms?

i always go against the trends. I hate mainstream! i wont wear the clothes, listen to the music, or anything. UR NORMAL

@KeyboardSolo: I agree with you guys and I do not reject for the sake of it, I genuinely disagree with it. I think that's an excellent way to go about it. I know that there are also counter-cultures who believe they are rebelling, when in fact they are still being manipulated by external forces into believing that acting a certain way will bring about a rebellion.

@phillustine: Thanks for the advice phillustine. I suppose if I had to hazard a guess at why those who embrace the norms presented by society steer clear is because generally you're presenting them an idea that is unknown to them, I suppose it's human nature to fear something that is unknown. Most likely they stay clear because they feel their very foundation being shaken and fear for it's stability perhaps.

Sure. In my opinion the very definition of stupidity is to not question norms; that is, to not form one's own opinions. This kind of resonates with what KeyboardSolo wrote. One caveat, however, although some here have praised you for "being this way". It has been my experience that the majority of people, who do follow society's norms, will generally steer quite clear of you. Reasons for this could be many, and I won't go into them; but there is definitely a price to pay. So, as KeyboardSolo also said: choose wisely.

You gotta be careful. Rebellion for the sake of rebellion is foolish. You're still letting the majority control you, just in a different way. I like my way. I do what I want and whether or not it goes against societal norms is pure coincidence. Usually it does, but that's the price you pay for intelligence.
