Is it normal to want to put a hidden door to my basement?

So I recently bought my first house, (a nice split level ranch,) and I always thought it would be cool to have a hidden doorway in my house. The problem is, my hallway is narrow so it would be hard to put it to my spare bedroom (my music studio.) My other choice would be to put it in my kitchen where the door to the basement is.
While all that's down there is my washer and storage, I fear like this might be creepy and might scare off a future lady friend. ("Guy's got a hidden door to his basement. WHAT'S DOWN THERE?!?" etc.)

I'm kind of a strange bird in general, but I fear this would give newcomers a bad impression.
Please feel free to leave a helpful comment.

It would be unique and nothing wrong with it. 16
It would be ok, but for another room, or a closet.. 3
It's creepy as hell. Don't do it, buddy. 6

I've thought of hidden entrances to basements as well. Like, you walk into a closet, spin a broom attatched to the wall, which reveals a lever behind another wall which opens a compartment containing 3 wheels that pull back bolts in a third wall, so you can then spin a mop which opens the now unbolted wall up.

  • I’ve always thought a hidden door or room would be kinda cool. I once went to an open house and one place had a bookshelf that actually came out on one side and behind it was a small hidden room. Probably pretty weird but it’s neat.

Don't let people's judgments inhibit your creativity.

It would a totally rational thing to do if your lifestyle or employment means there's a real possibility that unpleasant people bearing weapons might invade your home.

Disguising the kitchen-side of the door to the basement by attaching some sort of storage unit to the front would be sensible too. At the moment, it's just wasted wall-space, and every kitchen I've ever seen could do with more storage.

I once thought of getting a hidden entrance to one of the rooms in my house, but then I realized I'd rather spend my money on something better.

There is so much wrong with that.

  • I think it's a good idea. Great place to keep valuables or private items.

As a woman, I'd like it to feel safe if someone broke in. Or I'd make it a cool hideout! Sounds like fun. Do it.

I don't think it's weird. I kind of like the idea. What if the girl opened the door and she saw something amazing inside. Like a beautiful retreat or something.

I get it, sounds cool. Why do you need another door to the basement? Wouldn't you need to hide the door that is there now, couldn't people just use that door?
