Is it normal that I want to live next door to my boyfriends parents? Were moving in together in the fall and his parents own a two flat directly next to there house...it's cute and in a great location buts it's so close I don't know if it's a good idea! My boyfriends seems more nervous about than I am...he likes his family but thinks it may be too close for comfort. Is this normal or a disaster waiting to happen?
Very difficult. Two of my good friends were offered land, and a house, on a large family property where most of them live, and, after thinking about it, the wife, Lisa, decided against it (was her husband's family's land/compound), saying he'd end up doing everything for everybody, and, while she liked them, wanted her privacy so they could live their own lives.
It could go either way.
My grandparents lived around the corner from my aunt & uncle (could even shhe aunt's house from gram's back window). They never had problems cause both respected the others privacy and, for the most part, wouldn't drop by with the other's home with out calling first.
Now my close friend on ther othere hand hasn't been as positive. The day she and her now exhusband closed on their house her inlaws bid (and later moved into) the house right next door. They had no respect for my friend's privacy. They'd just walk right in with out even knocking first the mother-in-law would even let her self in and go upstairs to the master bedroom and stand there while my friend was breast feeding her twins (and therefor topless with nothing to cover her). Even after my friend started divorce procedings and her husband moved ou it would happen. It finally stopped when one day her former father-in-law walked in and she was standing at the kitchen sink naked. So think about it and take your bf's desires into account.
