Is it normal to want to learn Alchemy?

  • It's not quite correct to say that alchemy is the predecessor to chemistry, but it wouldn't be wrong, either.

    Chemistry arose by applying the scientific method to some of the experiments performed in alchemy, and thus eroding the spiritual element over time. Alchemy is still practiced today, but it is decidedly not a science, at least not in any meaning of the term that the general scientific community would consider valid.

    Alchemy is more of a religious, spiritual practice than a scientific one, but it holds some of the aesthetic trappings of science, what with the bubbling alembics and strange brine it produces.

    There's nothing wrong with wanting to learn about it, nor in trying it if you wish to see for yourself whether or not it works, but remember that there is a reason the pills you get from your doctor were created by chemists, not alchemists.
