Is it normal to want to kill people

I suffer from PTSD and it causes me to be overwhelmingly angry almost daily. When I'm triggered I want all people to die and suffer and I feel very quilty about this when I'm feeling better. This isn't real me. I hope I'm not danger to people.

Is It Normal?

  • It's normal to fantasize about this just don't actually do it.

Ok so you have a list of people you want to punch in the throat. Same here!!! Honestly if some asshat makes my list they very likely deserve to be on it. In fantasy land I can beat the shit outta them! In the real world no no no that is entirely off limits.

PTSD can really make you have a short fuse setting off rage chemicals. It all stems from a self defense origin. Completely understandable!!!! But you have to realize that you have this self protective rage, like Wolverine from X Men, and try to wisely keep it contained because it wouldn't be in your best interest to harm someone else, even if the asshat needs a swift kick in the rear. Just don't direct rage at people, okay.

You need an outlet to blow off steam. Got a punching bag? Really!!! This is exactly how to get the adrenaline out. PTSD, when you are triggered, puts your mind in a fight or flight mode. So you feel endangered and hostile to all threats, even little things may feel like a huge irritant. Blowing off steam by doing a comfortable repetitive action can tone down the adrenaline (rage) so you feel okay. With PTSD you just want to feel safe.

You should try to identify your triggers and remove them from your environment, or if that's not possible reduce sensory exposure to these triggers, or go about desensitization training so that you don't have an emotional reaction to those triggers. It's like when people with specific phobias like of flying or spiders undergo exposure to their fear in a safe place. They do this exposure long enough to stop reacting to it. It works with people. It even works with high strung horses, training them to not spook over loud noises and all that.

If you do this, you can stop that rage, and be as cool as a cucumber. It's all a matter of self training.

  • 55% of people marked normal for wanting to kill people? Yes, this is sure not a hostile world we live in. Lol I've also noticed that most people on iin are in fact quite normal, because I've noticed how most people seem to talk and think the same way on many websites, some are even worse than this one

  • This is why abusive relationships and war (the two biggest causes of PTSD by far) both suck hairy donkey ass.

    Society is so backwards...

      • Best thing is to get therapy. It’s helping many of my friends who’ve had it.

  • Do you experience your emotions more intensely than other people? Do you get really upset for days or longer over things that other people aren't bothered by?
