          Derek,
          If you really like this girl, you will need to stand up for her. Most women like to feel looked after and protected. I can understand if you do not want to get involved in a potentially violent situation. It is still advisable to be able to protect yourself. One way or another you will need to deal with this situation. Perhaps writing down the events that you have observed will help. Also write.down separately your thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. for the girl you like.
          You will need to strategize a solution to this problem. Maybe you can ask other friends if they have any ideas as to how to deal with this problem.
