Is it normal to want to have your amputated leg stuffed and mounted

My brother Eddie is facing the prospect of having one of his legs amputated in a few weeks and he's been investigating the possibility of getting his amputated leg back from the hospital and then having it stuffed and mounted in a glass case at home. He's contacted several taxidermists and they mostly told him they wouldn't do the job of stuffing a human leg. One of them even called him a weirdo. The only taxidermist who said he might consider doing it was very doubtful that the hospital would actually agree to handing over the leg in the first place, so my brother asked the hospital and they said it would be highly irregular and that there's lots of legislation surrounding the disposal of amputated limbs etc., so things like that normally go straight to the incinerator. When my brother pointed out that it was his leg not theirs, they said they'd look into the matter but they reckoned it was unlikely that permission would be given for the leg to be released so he could have it stuffed. Everyone seems to think my brother is carrying on like some kind of creepy weirdass, but surely he's within his rights to want to reclaim his leg and have it stuffed so he can put it on display in his living room as a conversation piece. So what do you reckon? Is it normal to want your stuffed leg on display or is it not normal at all? The guy's my brother so I don't like to be too judgemental myself.

  • Hospital took one of my nuts and I sure as hell don't want it back. I got a black and white picture of it though.

But hey, if your weirdo brother gets his stuffed, I'd want mine dangling on the front door 😂

  • If anything could be sentimental, it would be something you've had since birth. Normal. Maybe he doesn't like the idea of his leg being gone.

    Leg amputated because of diabetes...
EXACTLY what I wanted to hear seeing how I have type 2. Well damn, would it be too nosy to ask his age or how/why it got to that point?

Ok this is actually more disturbing than ANYthing else people have come up with on here. Worst part is it could actually happen.

He's 61. But most folk with Type 2 never get quite this bad if they do everything they can to manage their condition properly, so don't you despair now, okay? Just don't let it happen to you.

It seems the situation is rather like when someone who's died is cremated and then the crematorium charges their next of kin $100 if they want the ashes in a casket when the casket's probably only worth ten bucks. Like, whose ashes are they anyway? Surely the crematorium doesn't own them? And yet they can do what they like, because 'possession is nine tenths of the Law.' No fair.

If you can't be judgemental about close relatives you've known all your life, who the hell can you have any opinions about?

Sounds to me like your brother is either one of those people who gets off on shocking people, or he's having problems coming to terms with the impending loss of one of his limbs.

Fuck yeah, I’m all for people doing these kinds of things in the prospect of losing a limb. My personal opinion is if I’m losing a leg I’m going to try to sell it to some would be Cannibals and try to get on the news plus a go fund me campaign.

At what point does it become the hospital's leg???

That sounds like theft of the highest order.

How can they just steal his leg?
Sounds fishy. They may not really need to amputate it and are just selling it to some rich guy who needs a leg.

We just threw away some huge bottle of Kraft honey flavored barbeque sauce. In a perfect world, I would have been like, "Here Mr CozmoWank, you might put this to good use".

Oh my God, I'm so sorry! My late, first ex-mother-in-law had to have her left leg amputated.

    • Oh my god Rose you can’t just ask why his leg is being amputated

Why not? I suspected it was diabetes related anyway.
