I don't think it's fair on the duck. Its natural habitat is a river or lake, surrounded by lots of trees and shrubbery, in a group with other ducks, not cooped up in a house. They might be cute and affectionate, but being a caring pet owner means putting the pet before yourself.

This. People rarely think of the animals needs. A cat or something us fine indoors but dogs, and the like they require space.
