You should consider getting a contraceptive implant. It's the most reliable form of birth control I know, and it lasts for about 3 years without having to worry at all. It seems to me like the "rational choice".
That said, I would guess the symbolic value of having permanent surgery is probably important to you and it's totally your choice whether your prioritize that symbolic value over keeping your range future choices available.
