Is it normal to want to end friendships after high school

After being out of high school for two years, an old friend of mine from high school insists that we spend time together, even though we have nothing in common anymore and have completely different schedules. Lately I have been turning them down because I am honestly too busy to spend time with friends because college and work. But as much I have been avoiding them I dont know if I should completely tell them to stop talking to me or give them another chance. Is this a normal problem to have after high school or am I just being mean?

Completely normal, especially if it's 2 years after hs, and you started college and work. You have more 'stuff" and people in your life than the sheltered world of high school. I kept a few of my close friends, maybe 3-4, but when they visited my college campus, I loved introducing them to my new friends and a coworker from a part-time job I had. When I visited their campuses, they did the same. It's a growth process.

If this person is insisting you spend time with them, they obviously haven't grown in 2 years. You have. It's time to cut the cord on the high school buds unless you still have things/growth in common.

In some stages of life, you have to leave the trash behind...

Sounds mean to me. Perhaps you can decline politely if you genuinely don't have time.
