Is it normal to want to commit yourself to a psych ward?

  • Try talking to your doctor first. Maybe your condition would improve with visits to a psychologist or psychiatrist and maybe medication. They could give an objective opinion as to whether or not you need the 24hr supervision you'd get if committed.

I have had problems in the past with depression & panic disorder. Never been hospitalized but improved with meds & regular counselling. Iwish you the best and hope you find the peace of mind & relief you deserve. There are caring people out there.

    • Considering her height and weight it's probably best that she have voluntary treatment. She is very underweight. If 24 hour supervision shows that she is in fact eating well then she could always receive GP treatment afterward.
