Is it normal to want to celebrate christmas by eating kfc with my friend?

For Christmas I'm celebrating it by ordering KFC and eating it with him, by accomplishing this I am learning more about his culture other than still learning the honorific titles ( san, chan, kun etc. I have previously covered this in another post. ), I think personally it is fascinating how in my friends culture he celebrates Christmas by eating KFC so I thought why not eat it with him when I invite him over.

Is It Normal?

  • Yeah, I read somewhere on the internet that it's a christmas tradition to eat at KFC in Japan.

    • Experienced it first hand. Didnt belive the stories, sounded kinda stupid.

Then I see a round the block line of people for their pre-ordered bucket of chicken. Our base had a popeyes so we were covered.

I found it ironic that the last minute Christmas food for people in america is asian food. Then in japan american chicken is the christmas food. Full circle.

  • I think it’s cool everyone has their unique holiday traditions. Might not be mine, but it’s cool you’re enjoying it together.

        • For your information KFC is the japanese standard of chicken. They consume a shit ton of kfc during Christmas. Its ironically awesome.

          • Well, good for them, but Kentucky Fried Chicken for me will always be the place where my mother took me to the restroom to wash my hands, but we couldn't, because there was vomit in the sink! That was my first impression of KFC when I was a tiny child almost fifty years ago. For many, many years my family referred to it as Kentucky Fried Vomit. I've maybe eaten KFC a small handful of times in my 51 years of life.

            • All japanese restaurants restrooms are kept to a standard that Michelin restaurants have.

I went to an ordinary mcdonalds and they served me what was displayed on the poster. Instagram perfect ¥120 value burger. It was beautiful.

      • I have never tried Popeyes, but hopefully one day after COVID I'd love to go over to the States and try it.

  • KFC would be better than some of the things I have had for Christmas meals so far in my lifetime.

Normal to want a favorite food for Christmas.... and little kitchen time and cleanup involved.

  • I think as long as you are spending it with someone that it’s good. The holidays are not meant to be spent alone, but together. So you guys do you. Doesn’t matter what you eat!

  • KFC is so gross where I live. I’ve never been to one that didn’t disappoint the fuck out of me.

  • Let's listen to real truth: yes this is normal (and there is a real truth, but it's not the correcting of the truth, it's simply the way things are). Eating KFC on Christmas is what a lot of Americans do.

    • As soon as the OP said KFC Christmas I got flashbacks of eating popeyes with my navy buds in Sasebo. Good times.
