Is it normal to want to be in a psychiatric ward?

Ok so I am suicidal and I really want to stay in hospital is this normal?

    It's obvious you know you need to be somewhere safe and that although you're feeling suicidal you really don't want to do it. It's positive that you know that, so please take action to care for yourself.

    Find somewhere safe through a suicide phone line or doctor or therapist AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    By definition no, the average person wouldn't be on a psychiatric ward , either as an employee, patient or relative.
    But there isn't anything wrong with that...
