  • Be careful what you wish for!

I went deaf last year when my dad died and lost my balance with labyrthitis and have really loud tinnitus. At least you can practice being deaf by putting cotton wool in your ears or ear plugs but it is very difficult to live with, when you can't hear cars or you ignore people by mistake. I constantly have to ask people to repeat themselves and they eventually ask, "Are you deaf?" Unfortunately, there is no way of letting people know you are deaf when you are in a queue or being talked to by a cashier.

Enjoy ASL for what it is - but trust me, you don't really want to be deaf :o(

    • i fully agree. i knew a neighbours-girl as a friend that was deaf during my childhood.

"play" deaf all you want with professional earplugs and stuff. i'd imagine good sleeping plugs and studio-quality headphones should combine to basically shut out all but the most loud noises.

but don't go there for real unless destiny forces it upon you.
