Well, I know that for me I've always been someone who has had crushes on unattainable men, never had a boyfriend and don't want one. I find that I am very satisfied crushing from afar and knowing that I don't have to deal with the stress of a relationship. If the time comes, maybe one day I will want a relationship with someone but, so far, I've only crushed on unattainable men and I'm very satisfied with it.
For some people, maybe it's hard, but for others (including myself) it's much easier.
is it normal to want someone that will never desire you?

It doesn't hurt them to be in love someone who will never love them back? I'm not sure I agree with you on that analysis.
Whenever I've been in a that situation, it hurt like hell. To avoid further agony, I moved on.
