Maybe she likes him that way? To me, this sounds like someone who'd be ready to hurt her badly/ kill if she were to leave him. Maybe she is scared of leaving him because she knows what he's going to do to her. Or she is blinded and doesn't realise there are better people out there who would not do this to her.
