My kids are out of the house. My wife and her two kids are left...her oldest is a Marine and gone... We got along. Her daughter is a little bitch...to her mom.... Thinks her deadbeat dad is the best. I volunteered to go on a business trip and am extending it through the weekend just to escape for a while. Is this normal?

Hell, yes, normal..Getting away for some you time is needed here and there. Few years ago, all at once, my now-ex wife, and, my own family, were driving me crazy every day, to the point I took an extra 2 nights in NYC on my way back from 3 days in St. Louis (for, as it turned out..nothing), but told the wife I was hung up in St. Louis for that time due to extra meetings and a flight screw-up.
Took the time in NYC to visit a few places, went out both nights, and just have a little do what I want time. Needed it.
