Is it normal to want a purple and black kitchen?

The curtains, floor, fridge, stove, and other appliances would be purple. The cabinets floor and wall would be black.

If you have the money and don't care about the retail value of the home... Go for it!

How you decorate your house is up to you.

It'll lower the resale value of the house.

Ugly. Black and purple would hide messes like nothing else. I perfer lighter tones so I can see if theres a mess.

Baby colors = lighter colors. Why not have lighter colors so you can have an easier time pointing out said messes ;P

Depends on what your home is.

If it's a starter home and you know you will be trying to sell it in a few years, then doing this would be very stupid as a new kitchen will cost you a lot of money to fit, and then it will knock value off your house because anyone buying it will want to rip the kitchen out. Double loss.

If this is your forever home and you have no reasonable expectation that you will be selling it anytime soon, then you should absolutely do whatever your heart desires, and decorate it exactly to your own tastes.

I like the idea of black walls, not necessarily in the kitchen but I think it would look nice in at least one room.

That would be far from the dumbest kitchen I've ever seen.

Kitchens are generally done in light tones because most people like the idea of being able to see dirty surfaces in an area where food is prepared. Most people also like to be able to see what the hell they're doing when they're working with sharp implements and sources of high heat; white or light shades and reflective metal surfaces bounce light around and so reduce the number of dark corners.

But if you never actually cook and if you just want to be different, on you jolly well go. I imagine pictures of the result would get you a few moments of minor fame on social media, so I guess you might consider that would justify your efforts to be unique.
