Is it normal to want a daughter desperately?

I'm only nineteen and have no desires to settle down and have a family anytime soon but every time I see a mother with a little girl I get so jealous and wish desperately that I had a daughter. I sometimes sit at home just wishing I had a little girl whose hair I could braid, etc. Is this normal?

Get a doll - a baby soon grows up!!

After crying, vomitting and pooing it takes a few years before the 'child' sits still long enough for you to braid its hair.

    Wise up!!!

Exactly what i was gonna say.
I never really had dolls as a kid and even now at 19, i really want one to act like a mother to. BUT i cant buy one.
      Its so shameful :)

You can always join the Big Sisters programme, or spend time with younger relatives if you have any.

Although you want a child, I do hope that you take in mind that its hard being a mother.. For the moment just focus on school. Can't be one of those folks who bring a baby into the world, just because their cute & tiny.

It kind of sounds less like you genuinly wish to have a daughter and more like you're kind of lonely.

Having a baby is very hard work. It is very costly and takes a lot of effort to keep it together. Maybe try what the above posters are suggesting. And try caring for a baby for long periods of time. That sure motivated me to wait.

Maybe try and volunteer at a daycare or offer to baby sit, could help right?

It's kind of you to offer her advice and solutions, but judging from the (post) it seems that she doesn't want to fuss over other people's babies she wants her own. I can totaly relate as I used to feel exactly the same way. x

Yes it's quite normal, but the reality of it is that if you do decide to have a baby would you love a son just as much as you cannot guarantee that you would have a girl. Your first wish should be for a healthy and happy baby long before you worry about what gender it will be x
