Is it normal to use the same phrase's in almost every sentance?

When my friend is speaking he uses the same words to begin every thing he says and its driving me a little nuts! He begins every (almost) sentance with "Well in theory" "To be fare" and consantly over uses the word "Epic". How do I tell him without making him feel bad?

Is It Normal?

  • he may do this to feel smart. i think u should tell him how you feel. get him alone and explain things to him gently. if he still does it then ask him why he does. maybe you can help him to stop.

  • I think everyone has a word or phrase they like! :D

Don't burst his bubble unless it annoys you beyond belief. LOL

  • Laugh, nudge him, and say "Oh in theory?"

Just make a joke out of it, I'm sure he doesn't realise he's doing it.

I have a friend the same, she laughed when I teased her about it coz she didn't realise :o)

  • Unfortunately it's all too normal. I make a conscious effort to vary my speech patterns throughout the course of a day.

Morning: I talk like an old Mississippi Delta Blues Guitarist, like Muddy Waters, or Booker White.

Afternoon: Like, I totally talk like a stereotypical American teenager, dude.

Evening: My speech is that of a Sir.

  • Yeah, just make it a joke, they will notice it. Or maybe bring up something you say a lot in conversation and he will think about his speaking habits.

  • I have a real annoying one. "it's like whatever" I mean, what does that even mean? "it's like whatever" It sounds stupid, but I catch myself saying an awful lot.
