I tried acid once about 10 years ago, and I know exactly what you are talking about.
I have a very vivid memory of childhood and everything before about 5 is like that. I actually remember as a toddler my mental state felt like what I would later describe as "high".
As I got older reality appears more dull, although I still get that old "high" from time to time without even doing anything. I don't know if most people do, but I am still like a child more so than most adults are, which may also be part of why I have such a clear memory of early childhood.
My guess is that as we age, our brains produce less and less DMT, which is probably what induces this perception.
I think a lot of people aren't going to understand this because they haven't tried lsd and/or do not remember childhood as clearly as us.
