Is it normal to turn off fear?

I used to get bullied at school and there is this one technique I learnt myself is that you can turn off a fear by basically zoning out and not realizing what you do (I’m terrible in explaining but I’m trying my best)

Anyway when you get bullied everything you say and do get used against you- including fears, anyway not so long ago there was this pretty big spider in my room and ⟟ hit it, grabbed it, it was still alive tho just a broken leg- and ⟟ went downstairs to feed it to my cat, ⟟ hold it above him- ⟟ have never seen my family so shocked- when ⟟ zoned back in and realized what ⟟ was doing ⟟ got scared, shocked and let go off the spider while my cat hunted on-.

Idk just wanna know if it’s normal or not

It's bad luck to kill spiders. I'm not impressed with the arachnicide!

“turn off a fear by basically zoning out and not realizing what you do”

This is dissociation. It’s part and parcel of a few personality disorders. I do this when extremely angry. The brain automatically does this to protect me from negative feelings during the course of taking action against the offending object or person.

It lessens and mellows as you age. They are often referred to as rage blackouts. I wouldn’t say you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s more that it seems “less real” because you aren’t being hindered emotionally at the time by anything going on.

It’s honestly like seeing someone possessed by something. Dilated pupils, robotic movements, don’t speak or blink at all.

Growing up I was a fearful lad, but thank God I looked up to most people throughout history who with years of determination eventually rode past the phase of society's belittling to live a life worthy of admiration.

As I type this, I'm living my dream on the fringes of society much to the envy of most people who bullied me in school.

Most people who are considered hero's turned off their fear and did things that would stop most people cold with fear.

Done right and for the right reason - this is a good response.

Done for the wrong reasons... and you cause more harm than good.

I suggest you seek out some counselor who deals with people who have overcome fear and are having to adjust to a new life. There will be at least a few of those in every state.

Yes, overcoming fear is called courage.

Sometimes it's called "acting like an idiot for not listening to your gut-feeling". Fear is designed to keep you safe.
Not being completely paralyzed by fear; THAT is what I'd call courage.

Yeah! People either bow up and confront, debate and sit, or shit their pants and cower in a corner. I'm a fan of the former, your background and age really determines how you react.

I use to attempt to turn it off by just saying "fuck it" to myself and going for it
