Is it normal to touch your friends when talking to them?

I find myself touching my friends on their arm, shoulder or back when talking to them sometimes. I'm not trying to flirt. They don't seem to mind it, but I wonder if they think I'm flirting?? I only do it with my closer friends that I'm more fond of. Not people that I just make small talk with.

I’m a big toucher. Some people do not care for it though. But I’ve never had any complaints.

I hate it personally. That’s reason I’ve had to go my own separate ways with a lot of my friends. I think cause we argued about the touching too much thing!!

That sounds pretty normal, as long as your friends don't mind being touched I don't think theres a problem with it.

This is quite common and normal for certain people.

I've never had or heard of anyone interpreting it as "sexual" interest,

I think that's just the way some people express themselves. I've noticed people like that too and have never thought it was out of the ordinary or flirtatious (unless accompanied by other flirtatious behaviors or the person doing it doesn't do it to people they aren't interested in).

Depends on how often, the genders/known sexual orientations, and what you're doing with your eyes.

    • Well I feel straight. My friends and I are the same gender. And how about "hitting" someone on the leg while joking and laughing? That's something I don't even think about, I just do it

Yes, what is abnormal is massaging thier shoulders, hugging too much, stroking thier neck or petting thier head when it hasnt been consented to. Which some people are wierdly affectionate and some people are not going to always want this. I literally had a freind who said they did this to all thier freinds including the males. They seem offended when I kept having to forcibly create bounderies.

        Depends where on the leg.
