Is it normal to touch a friend while 'sleeping'

When I was younger like 14-16, my friends would spend the night and we all sleep on the ground and I would wake up in the middle of the night and realize he has his hands in my boxers touching me, but I would act like I'm sleeping and I'd start to touch him. But I'm not gay.
