Is it normal to think you're not allowed to be smart?

Seems like most everyone I meet is trying to prove me wrong, tell me why I'm wrong, and ready to dismiss me as a worthless child. So I watch carefully what I say, and say as little as possible, but sometimes even that doesn't deter them. I am like a cock tease for the insecure, and I would like to know how they target me.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • People don't like to lose and therefore hate it (and don't accept it) when you're right or present a better argument / solution than them. This is especially true if they are older than you, they think that you can't possibly know better than them at your age and refuse to accept it when you do.

My parents always brag to others about my intelligence, but never accept it when on the losing side of an argument with me.

  • well i think it depends on what you are talking about and whether or not you are actually right in your knowledge and whether or not you still think you are right even if there is evidence to show you are wrong. but to be honest, you do sound a little arrogant and generally arrogant people dont ever believe they are wrong even when it is proved to them. but i could be reading too much into your post.
