He said NOTHING about being an alcoholic. He asked you if people who drink alcohol are idiots, regardless of whether or not they're alcoholic. The reason he asks you this is because alcohol directly kills more people than every illegal drug, COMBINED. That's a fact, not a myth. It's also responsible for killing more people INDIRECTLY (alcohol-related car accidents, for example) than most illegal drugs combined.
As far as psychedelics and hallucinogens go, they're far too complex and easy to misunderstand on a site like this, but chemicals like LSD, DMT, mescaline and a wide variety of other psychedelics have shown very positive results in a number of mental illnesses. Beyond their medicinal properties they also offer the users very profound and positive life-changing experiences. All the "people going crazy" stories you hear are a TINY minority. If I had to guess I'd say more people die from caffeine every year (a couple thousand) than go 'crazy' from psychedelic use.
My question to you, Darkoil, is why are you concerned about what other people do to their bodies when it has no negative impact on you whatsoever? If someone is doing a drug that brings them more happiness (LSD, mushrooms, marijuana, etc.), what do you have against them?
