Is it normal to think the world owes you?

  • Congrats on asking an excellent question, OP. First of all, by "world", I presume you mean some subculture of the world like your government, your family, your parents, etc.
    1. Entitlement:
In my culture I have met hundreds of people who think as you do (so it's normal). That might have something to do with the fact that we have a generous welfare system and socialised medicine that people feel totally entitled to. A lot of recipients don't even feel grateful for it because they have been conditioned to think that they deserve it even though they haven't necessarily ever been a taxpayer.
If you grow up in family where you don't have to work prior to leaving home, of course, you're going to feel the same way.
The more gifts you get without being forced to pay for them directly through work, the more entitlement you feel.
That said, a sense of entitlement might be good for self esteem.
Many beautiful women feel entitled to be supported by wealthy men for the rest of their life.
Many kids of wealthy parents feel very entitled.
    2. What do your parents owe you?
I totally agree with you. You didn't ask to be born and if you parents are going to bring you into the world, THEY OWE YOU BIG TIME!! Yes, they do. They should feed, clothe and shelter you until 18 or until you can earn your own living, or if you're sick/disabled, for life! If you're in a western society, they should educate you. If you're middle class, they should put you through college (assuming you're bright enough, which you obviously are). They should prepare you to be successful in your culture as an adult.
