All these scares exist so we don't look at what is truly scary. For instance, the meat packing plants used by fast food outlets I won't name (but which you have all eaten at) are purely profit-driven. The faster they process the animal, the more money they make, even though this means an increased incidence of fecal matter ending up in the meat.
Republicans whose wives are given token posts on the boards of these companies (and huge salaries for no real work) veto any bids to make meat production safer for the workers, and safer for the end consumers, because it hurts business. And making an extra penny profit per meal is more important than your six-year old sister dying from an E. Coli outbreak.
