It doesn't sound like she's bad, it just sounds like she has chosen her own path and is adamant about it. Many young adults are self centered, that's a product of the culture we live in and generally people grow out of it as they get out and see more of the world.
I don't know enough of the story, but I'm guessing your mother frequently disagrees with what she does? That could very well be the reason for the aggression, if she feels like her decisions aren't being respected by the family.
