People who are unhappy tend to project their inner turmoil onto others. Unhappy/self-loathing or insecure people will try to cut you down to feel social and self affirmation of their own worth. Sometimes its personal and envy-fueled, many times it is not. But I would not say it is even relevant to say that all people who display ill-will toward you are jealous. Its not about you, its about their own personal unhappiness which makes them disrespect you and likely everyone else.
