It is possible, its called pure-communism, or socialism. It is extremely hard to have society live this way. No society has been able to live without a monetary system that was a republic, democracy, or a little of both. Money is a way to show universal value for an item, it allows people to actually know when they're making money. Think about it, if you sold a cow for 4 pigs, who got the better deal? With a cow you can make dairy and beef products. With a cow you can just make pork products. However, the person who got the pigs can most likely breed them, seeing as they have four, and chances suggest tat least one will be a gender different from the others. This is why money is important. Sorry for the lengthy answer.
humans have been around since before we can remember.. if that makes any sense. but our monetary system IS NOT universal because it only applies to US. no one else. the one and only thing that every single society has shared in likeness throughout the history of mankind is their DOWNFALL. they all failed. every single one of them..money is a tool that traps your mind into believing we are dependent upon the system. which we are if we'd like to continue functioning like normal human beings.
(idk about u but the frustrated co-workers that are literally exploding in rage are looking more and more like zombies to me)
monetary system applies to every country that plays even a remote roll in the global community. Although currencies are not the same, as i previously stated, all currency is backed by gold. so yes our monetary system is universal. of course there are some select societies in micronesia and what not that don't use a monetary system, but they are constantly being converted over to a monetary system. look at countries like kiribati, fsm, marshall islands. and dude get your commie ass out of here. money is very important, be cause in communism you are born into your role, and cannot grow out of it. the great thing about capitalism is that no matter what your background, anyone can prosper if they work hard. last time i checked china and ussr never had a rockefeller or a walton. its a little thing called self-made man. people that have determination to make something of themselves, instead of doing minimal work, and barely getting by.

another form that does not use monetary implements is Marxism or what is considered the perfect government. It is the mixture of Socialism and Complete Communism.
