The Japanese have had their day, but over spending and investing poorly in places like Hawaii and Europe has left them in pretty poor shape. Their industrial systems are archaic and the Chinese have taken their cheap manufacturing structure and improved on it.
Japan was a great model for the Chinese to build on, but the Japanese will have little place in world commerce in the future.
Labor in Japan is no longer cheap (nothing in Japan is cheap), but China has an inexhaustible supply of cheap labor.
